• Woodburners are designed to burn seasoned wood logs only, on a flat bed of ash. They don’t have a raised grate because wood burns best on a bed of embers.

• Multi-Fuel stoves, however, are distinguished by having a grate and ash pan, so you can burn other solid fuels such as smokeless coal, anthracite, wood briquettes, heat logs or some peat or eco-approved fuels.

As far as installing your lovely new stove is concerned, you could do it yourself, but only once you have notified your local authority’s Building Control department, who will ensure your workmanship meets all Building Regulations. The regulations are complex and detailed, covering everything from the construction of the hearth and clearances to the type of flue and ventilation required.

It’s far preferable, however, to use a professional stove installer. We can recommend local HETAS-registered installers who will make sure your stove and flue is installed correctly in line with all the regulations.
